Capcom Open Conference RE:2026 · 2 October 2026

Capcom is turning RE Engine into an AI generation engine.

Capcom's RE Engine powers Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Here is what the announcement actually said, which six RE: subsystems are involved, and what it changes, and does not change, for the games you already own.

Short answer

RE Engine is Capcom’s in-house game engine, first shipped with Resident Evil 7 in 2017 and used since for the Resident Evil remakes, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, Street Fighter and Dragon’s Dogma. On 2 October 2026 Capcom said it will evolve it into an “AI generation engine” under a programme it calls the REX Project. Nobody outside Capcom can use any of it: there is no download, no SDK, no licence and no release date, and no shipping game has been shown running on the new tooling.

What is confirmed, what is reported, and what nobody knows

The announcement is easy to overstate, because most of what has been written about it goes further than the sources do. This is the whole record, claim by claim, with the label each claim earns.

How to read this Official Capcom stated this in a primary source (IR material, conference, or its own site). Reported Credible media reporting. We would rather say so than guess.

The six RE: subsystems

Capcom published six names and no specifications. The names are official; the one-line purpose under each is our reading of that name, which is why every card is labelled.

What happened, in order

  1. AI raised in the context of game development Official

The earliest Capcom remarks on AI that we can date. We make no claim about anything earlier, and an answer to an investor question is not a product plan.

  2. RE Engine to evolve into an “AI generation engine” Official

Capcom used its own developer conference to describe the change and named the REX Project and six RE: subsystems. No specification, schedule or demonstration followed.

  3. English coverage spreads, and the query breaks out Reported

Reporting ran a day behind the keynote. Search demand followed the coverage rather than leading it, which is worth remembering when a headline describes a sudden wave of interest.

Questions people are asking

What did Capcom actually announce?

That RE Engine will evolve into an “AI generation engine” under the REX Project, and that the work is organised into six named RE: subsystems. That is the whole announcement: no product, no date, no specification. The explainer takes it apart claim by claim.

Is RE Engine now an AI engine I can use?

No. Nothing has been released in any form, and RE Engine has never been licensed or sold to anyone outside Capcom. The availability page answers the download, SDK and licensing questions directly.

Does this affect Resident Evil or Monster Hunter games I already own?

No. Nothing in the announcement concerned released titles, and no patch, re-release or engine swap has been announced for any of them. Rendering technology is not what changed.

What are RE:Dox, RE:UI, RE:Log, RE:Flows, RE:Runtime and RE:C++?

The six subsystem names Capcom published. They read as documents, editor tooling, telemetry, build and test paths, runtime, and C++ source access. The REX Project page covers each one, including what is inference rather than specification.

When will there be a game built with it?

Undated, and we will not invent a schedule. The roadmap page tracks what has been said and lists the signals that would show real progress.

Every claim on this site carries a dated source. Where Capcom has only announced an intention, we write “Capcom says”, not “the engine does”.

No pop-ups, no autoplay, no tracking scripts. Answer first, detail second, sources last. Every claim carries a dated source, and every page shows when it was last checked.
